Absentee Voting by Mail

What?

There will be no in-person excused absentee voting, but excused absentee voting by mail (or by personal delivery, by an immediate family member, or by an authorized representative) will continue.

Requesting an Absentee Ballot

No one may request absentee ballots for more than 5 persons, in addition to themselves. A person who makes a request for an application to vote by absentee ballot, either for themself or on behalf of another elector as permitted by this section, must provide the following:

For the elector for whom the request is being made, the elector’s Name, Date of birth, Last four digits of their social security number. Campaign volunteers, along with employees, are excluded from those who can serve as authorized representatives.

Who is Eligible?

Excused absentee voting by mail will be open to:

  • Voters with disabilities, Those 65 or over, Members of the Armed Forces or Merchant Marine and their families residing with them, and Voters admitted to the hospital on an emergency basis within four days of Election Day. Others who may vote by mail are those who are unable to vote in person during both the two-week early in-person voting period and Election Day due to the following:

  • Employment

  • Caretaking responsibilities

  • Incarceration

  • Other absence from the county of primary residence by election officials.

Who Can Witness An Absentee Ballot?

Witnesses must be at least 18 years of age. Effective for the November general election, the witness must provide a printed name and address as well as a signature.

Delivering Someone’s Completed Absentee Ballot

Authorized representatives or immediate family members of voters must show drivers license/voter registration from a list of government-issued photo IDs when returning a completed ballot. The ID will be recorded.
